How the Regulators Changed the World

The financial services sector has been profoundly affected by regulation since the near-collapse of the banking system in autumn 2008. In March 2014, ACCA hosted an event in London which examined the forces that are driving regulatory reform and considered its impact on banking, business and society at large.
Five expert speakers addressed the event. They were Eric Bigham, an independent strategy consultant with Bigham Consulting; Toby Billingham, programme director, conduct risk, for UK retail and business banking at Barclays; John Liver, partner in the EMEIA financial services practice of Ernst & Young; Simon Morris, partner with law firm CMS Cameron McKenna; and Tim Reucroft, director, investor services, with investor data services provider Thomas Murray
The speakers considered the background to the current regulatory push, the agenda of global and UK-based regulators, how banks are responding, and what tighter regulation means in practice. Their key observations are outlined in this white paper below.
